KUIH SIPUT (Nabia)
Woke up this morning, wishing it's still Ramadhan...you know why? Because noti mama is just too lazy to make breakfast! Hahaha! Just kidding! I made jemput-jemput pisang for breakfast. And for lunch, cooked Sambal Telur, all the simple dishes because I have a few 'projects' in mind. And actually, it's a mission accomplished! Experimented 3 new recipes of Kuih raya today...Hahaha...people must be wondering, what is this woman thinking....baking more kuih raya on Hari Raya itself! That's because, my kuih raya is almost finished and hubby had said, he wanted to invite a few close friends, maybe this weekend....MAYBE....so, I have to prepare something definately huh! The ones that I baked before, I've distributed to friends and teachers.

One of the new recipes that I tried just now is KUIH SIPUT. http://nabialish779.fotopages.com(Nabia) had been generous enough to give me the recipe via email before she went for her Eid leave but at that time, I was VERY OCCUPIED preparing the Eid plates that I don't have time to try the recipe. And as far as I can remember, there are two ladies who had asked for the recipe. I am very sorry my dears, for not being able to post the recipe on time for your kuih raya! Trully sorry! This year, I wasn't very organised, everything was done on a last minute basis. Anyway, I did this kuih siput (finally) this afternoon with the help of Syahmi. He was just so curious to see me doing it that he wanted to give it a go...I just let him and he seems to enjoy doing it! Haha...mama's good boy! And Nabia, thank you very much for sharing with us the recipe and yes, I know...there's another recipe waiting for me to experiment...will do it soon, insyaAllah....


KUIH SIPUT (Nabia)

Ingredients :

Garlic
Red onion
Dried shrimps
Curry powder
Flour
Thick coconut milk
Margarine ~ the amount of margarine used will determine the crispiness of the kuih

Method :

1. Ingredients A : Blend/grind finely garlic, red onion and dried shrimps.
2. Add in curry powder and thick coconut milk to ingredients A and mix well.
3. Rub margarine and flour to form like breadcrumbs.
4. Slowly pour in the mixture (2) into the flour, bit by bit till a soft dough is formed.
5. Using a Kuih Siput mould, take a bit of the dough, press on to the mould and roll downwards till a shell like shape is formed.
6. Repeat the process till all the dough is finished.
7. Heat the oil and fry till golden brown.

Note :

This is roughly how I made it : 1 garlic, 1 onion, 1 tablespoon dried shrimps, 1 tablespoon curry powder, 2 1/2 cups flour. Sorry, didn't measure the coconut milk and margarine. I added a pinch of salt.

Don't say you're bad at baking...it's not true...Like my hubby use to say, when we were born into this world, we don't know anything, but day after day, we learn and we'll get better and better each day. So all you have to do is to brave yourself and start baking. Bake at a very small portion if you are not too sure of yourself. Eventually you'll get the hang of it. Just say to yourself....I CAN DO IT, insyaAllah you'll succeed. All the very best to you my dear! And yes, that mini fryer is a great help in the kitchen. I've fried potato chips, cekodok pisang and the kuih Siput as well. I just love that fryer! Thank you for showing your mom my site. I'm honored! The Mama Carries is not at all difficult to do, but just a bit tricky when baking. Use only the bottom heat to avoid the top being 'ugly'. I learnt through mistakes as well! About the lack of ingredients, I am very much known as Mrs Short Cut dot Com in my family. If I want to eat something, and the ingredient is not available, I just left it...hehehe...but then again, if it's the main ingredient...then try hard not to wish for that food ya...hahahaha.....
